Sugar Glass

This is used as base for my daughter's birthday cake. People use this to decorate cakes or cupcakes also, or just eat as hard candy.

Ingredients:

Sugar - 3 and 3/4 cups
Water - 1 cup
Light corn syrup - 1 and 1/2 cups
(Optional) Food coloring
(Optional) Flavor extract 1 TBSP

Steps:

1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a heavy duty sauce pan, cook until the mixture reach 300°F (Hard Crack). A test for readiness is to drop some mixture in ice water, and see if the formed candy string is brittle. If the candy sticks to your teeth, you need to cook more.

2. Add food color if desired.
3. Coat a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the syrup on the sheet. Let it cool and harden.
4. Bang the tray on table or drop on floor, the glass will crack, make it look like real shattered glass.
